Foundation GROW (Giving Riders Opportunities To Win) is a 501(c)(3)organization dedicated to funding riding and competition scholarships to worthy young Long Island equestrians who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those riders with physical or emotional disabilities. Established in October 2006, the Foundation has awarded 11 scholarships to date which have entitled the recipients to a series of riding lessons.

The Foundation is currently offering a half scholarship to attend a 5-day,4-night equestrian overnight camp at Paard Hill Farms in Shelter Island, NY from August 11-15. The full cost to attend the camp is $1950, all inclusive. Foundation GROW is offering a scholarship worth $975 toward the cost of attending the camp. Applications are open to girls age 9 and up whose minimum skill level is cantering.

The camp program includes daily lessons in equitation, hunters and dressage. Instruction and hands on experience is proided in all aspects of horse care, from learning how to detect lameness to learning how to do show quality braids. Clinics will be given by the farm's vet, farrier, and equine massage therapist. A special natural horsemanship clinic will be given in which the girls will learn about horse nature, behavior, and psychology as they practice natural horsemanship techniques on the ground and in the saddle. In addition to the above scholarship, Foundation GROW is offering 2 scholarships entitling the recipients to a series of 10 riding lessons at Paard Hill Farms. This will just be one big open house party for anyone who wants to come to meet the staff and animals of Ponytales Rescue and see what a typical day is like here. May 31, 2008 -- Old Field Farm, Nassau Suffolk Horseman's Association, East End Livestock and Horseman's Association    Spring Vineyard Ride
Participants must pre-register and prepay to ride and participate in the wine tasting at the 3 vineyards. We will visit: Martha
Clara, Paumanok, and Jamesport Vineyards. The trail ride and tasting will start at 10 A.M. and last for approximately 3 hours.
The luncheon will follow on the lovely grounds of Martha Clara Vineyards including an art auction of the works of
The LONG ISLAND PLEIN AIR PAINTERS SOCIETY
who will be painting the beautiful vistas of our ride on site during the ride.
(Please note to bring a check if you wish to participate in the art auction and
bring home a painting to make for a lasting memory of the day.)
This opportunity will be limited to 100 equestrians. Family and friends may “hilltop” (registering without a horse) will have an opportunity to participate by car. A pre-registration period will be open April 1st to NSHA and Old Field Farm Members. Registration to the general public will open after April 15th depending on availability. Please make sure you are available for both May 31 and June 1st as we have ended up using the rain date in previous years. There will be no refund for attendees who cannot attend.
In the interest of safety for all participants, it is strongly recommend that horses be familiar with trail riding and riders with trail etiquette. Unruly horses and or riders may be excused from the field without refund. Mounting blocks will be available at each vineyard for those who wish to dismount. We will taste several wines at each vineyard and you may remain on horseback to do so. Water will be available for horses and riders at each tasting stop. ASTM protective headgear is strongly recommended and a release form must be signed before departure.
Hill toppers (those on foot) may follow the horses on foot and/or arrangements to use vehicles.

Riders often look for exotic trips to Europe to book trips to ride and explore the European Countryside. Many of these vacation packages involve traveling through wine country and riding from vineyard to vineyard. Why not explore from home?

Shutterbugs are welcome to photograph this event. The beauty of Long Island’s North Shore landscape, the vineyards, horses and people should serve as interesting subject material!

The tickets are $95 per person, are non-refundable and include a light breakfast, wine tasting at each Vineyard followed by a sumptuous gourmet luncheon. Once payment is received you will receive a confirmation letter with additional details. Checks may be made out to Old Field Farm, Ltd. Wine will be available for purchase at each vineyard (checks and CC accepted) . A vineyard ride steward can take your order

Starting January 1, 2008 exhibitors running in the NPBA local qualifying show classes are not required to have a current NPBA membership but NPBA membership will be required if an exhibitor wants the show to count as one of his or her two qualifying shows. This change was required because we need membership information (address etc) in order to send entry information for the National Championship Show.

July 14, 2008 -- Paard Hill Farms    EQUESTRIAN OVERNIGHT CAMP
This special program is for girls with riding experience. It includes daily lessons in equitation, hunters, and dressage. The lessons are tailored to each student's ability. There will be instruction and hands on experience in all aspects of horse care, from learning how to detect lameness to learning how to do show quality braids. Our farrier, veterinarian, equine massage therapist, and chiropractor will be on hand for exciting and informative clinics. A special treat will be a Natural Horsemanship clinic where the girls will learn about horse nature, behavior, and psychology, and how to use these elements to improve their relationship with their horse, on the ground and in the saddle. At the end of each adventure-filled day at the barn the girls can go for a swim in our pool or in the calm waters at one of the island's fine beaches.

The girls reside in our beautiful 4-bedroom Victorian house on the farm's property. Our resident Barn Manager lives in the house and supervises the girls at night. She is CPR Certified and is also a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of nursing experience.

Our Camp Director and Riding Instructor is Gina Neilson. Gina has over 35 years of training and teaching experience in eventing, hunter/jumper, and dressage. She is an outstanding, passionate, and engaging instructor and all of her students love her.

The cost is $1950 per session or $3700 for both. The second session is August 11 - 15. All lessons, clinics, lodging, and meals are included. You can use our horses or bring your own. There is a $100 stabling fee if you bring your own horse.

Starting January 1, 2008 exhibitors running in the NPBA local qualifying show classes are not required to have a current NPBA membership but NPBA membership will be required if an exhibitor wants the show to count as one of his or her two qualifying shows. This change was required because we need membership information (address etc) in order to send entry information for the National Championship Show.

Our third and final show of the season will be Sept. 28. Over fifty classes will be offered throughout the competition day for all levels of riders including reining. Non-members and spectators are welcome!

Join us at the Bohemia Equestrian Center, Sycamore Avenue (adjacent to the northeast corner of Connetquot Park) Competition will begin promptly at 8:30 am. Please keep in mind to qualify for the End Of Year Awards you must compete in a min. of 2 out of 3 shows and a min. of 3 pointed classes per show.

We are offering a series of four Schooling Shows with Year End Awards for every division. We have classes from Walk/Trot through 2'6" Equitation, as well as Hunters, Jumpers, and Pleasure. October 12, 2008 -- IHA Youth Group    The IHA Jack Benny Show
IHA Youth Group presents The Jack Benny Show for adults 25 and over. Show run by the Youth Group. All classes are restricted to trotting only. Penalities for breaking into a canter. Bring anything you can ride. Any style tack.Helmets suggested. Divisions: A- Know Nothing: For riders who do not show or are showing below the Novice level(English, Western, Gymkhana) or who have not won a championship or reserve in this division in the past. B- Know Something: For riders at the Novice level or above, and below Open, or who have not won a championship or reserve in this division in the past. C- Know It All: For trainers and or riders showing at the Open level, or those who classed out of Know Something. No pre enteries. Entries taken the day of show. In the true sprit of Jack Benny, one $25 fee includes all, no per class entry fees. We reserve the right to alter or change class.Refreshments, raffle basket, and 50/50. Rain date and classes TBA.

Offering Divisions in Beginner Horse/Rider, Pre-Novice Horse/Rider,and Novice. We will run a Training Division this year but will require four entries to run it. Also new for this year, we are offering an Intro Division. Aimed at the first time eventer, this division will use Intro Test A, cross rails, and a modified cross country course. The Intro Division will require five entries to run. We also have a Dressage Only Division with tests for 2003 Intro A+B, 2007 Training Level 1-4, 2006 Novice Test A and 2006 Training Test B.
