Blue Ribbon Farm    USDF Teaching Workshop with Lendon Gray

Sat March 31 2012

Join us for a USDF Teaching Workshop with Lendon Gray! March 31rst and April 1rst.

The USDF Instructor/Trainer Program workshops are designed to educate dressage riders of all levels. They are open to instructors, aspiring instructors and amateurs. USDF workshops provide a wonderful opportunity for all students of dressage to learn about classical theories of riding, training, teaching, lungeing and seat lessons. Participants will also be able to improve their practical skills under the guidance of USDF qualified workshop leaders. Apart from acquiring more theoretical knowledge and improving their practical skills, participants may also gain more understanding of whether or not their current level of expertise approaches the standard needed to become a USDF Certified Instructor.

RIDING: to review and apply the classical methods of schooling the dressage horse, and to provide an opportunity for participants to improve their practical riding skills, their ability to assess the horse's training, and their knowledge of how to relate the concepts of the Pyramid of Training in practical training sessions.

TEACHING: to review and develop effective teaching skills that will enable the participants to become more competent instructors. The workshop is an opportunity for participants to improve their ability to assess students, and expand the participants’ knowledge of how to relate the concepts of the Pyramid of Training to the practice of teaching. The participants will be evaluated on their presentations of private lessons. Workshops are offered as follows:

Participants (will teach lessons and be evaluated) $350 for the weekend, very limited spots

Participating Auditor (can be a part of the discussions) $50 per day

CLINIC DETAILS

Week long workshops and riding adventures are designed for those wanting to improve their confidence, communication, partnership and safe riding skills with horses. Professionals as well as pleasure riders benefit greatly from this week of intense study and fun. As the week progresses each day builds on the previous. Each day takes on its own personality as side trips riding into the rolling mountains and numerous multi colored canyon, discovering and learning about the fern and fauna, horse shoes, swimming, roping and adult camaraderie develop. Campfires, dinners under the stars, music, storytelling, dancing, recapping the day’s events with new friends, is enjoyed by all. Viewed as an adult camp with a theme, this format has the highest retention by the students. Working with a large variety of horses with varying personalities and issues, is an invaluable opportunity and critical to the learning process. There is no substitute for handling dozens of horses this week

Teaching the highly successful methods of Partnership & Confidence Building with every single horse she encounters, regardless of age, issue, breed

or discipline. In a step-by-step format she teaches her students the process of understanding why bad timing and poor releases lead to unhappy horses.  Time will be devoted to: Introduction; Bonding; Leadership; Building a Partnership; 4x4 Theory; Driving Forward; Desensitizing; and the Two Step.  Enhanced levels of understanding and higher levels of communication between horse and rider are the result.   Many students have suddenly discovered a heightened level of depth in their relationship and respect of safety with horses they have owned for years. The participants are left with a volume of information to apply to every horse they encounter in the future. This is a very full day with an adequate lunch break to rest horses and riders.
