Welcome to LI Equine's Message Board! This is the place to post your ideas, suggestions, stories, etc. All are invited to keep us up to date on what's going on at your barn in the "Barn News" section. The "Bargain Barn" is available for you to list for sale all items under $100 (any item over $100 is considered a classified ad and must be submitted as such!) Please remember that we do not post horses for sale, lease, or share board unless the horses are for free. We also don't post classified ads on the message board. And....please remember - if you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all!

The best clipper on Long Island!
My 28 year old mare has Cushing's, and every year her coat gets thicker and curlier depsite Pergolide use.
This year she looked like a woolly mammoth. Natasha from "A Pampered Pony" came down over the weekend to give her a full body clip.
Honestly, my mare looks 10 years younger. She looks like se did from her show days. The clip was PERFECT, and i also am dying for Natasha to come back for her special bath and "hot oil" treatments!
I love to spoil my girl because she was so good to me. I want her retirement to be nothing but fun. She LOVED being clipped and pampered by Natasha. She had "sleepy eyes" the entire time. Now, this is a mare who gives ME the side eye when I try to groom her - but she had nothing but love on Saturday for her spa session.
I now plan on clipping my mare regularly, and using Natasha for all of my "equine day spa" needs. She is a lovely person, patient and very professional. I would recommend her to anyone!!!

Rider Available
Anybody looking for an experienced rider to ride the horses you don’t have time for? I’m 18 and have been riding for years. Im in the East Moriches/ Center Moriches area and am looking for some more riding time and would like somewhere close by like 5 min away. I have no problem doing it for free if your close to me but if your further out like in Medford or Westhampton or somewhere of similar distance I would need a little bit of payment since I would have to drive out there quite frequently. You can give me a price though. And I can do other things too. My only restriction is I do voluntary work 8am-3pm on the weekdays in the summer so I could only be there anytime after 3. Also I am going off to college at the end of August so it will be a summer job.

FYI Previcox use in horses
There have been anecdotal reports from horse owners and equine vets about medical side effects in geriatric horses given the canine drug Previcox for long periods of time.
The drug company is aware of the use of the canine drug in horses and the primary reasons for this. Hopefully in the near future a more economical formulation will be available. An important "for your information" note about anti-inflammatory drug usage in horses.
Message to Horse Owners - Previcox versus Equioxx
It is against federal regulations for a veterinarian to prescribe or dispense the product Previcox®, labeled for use only in dogs, for use in horses because there is already a FDA-approved drug for use in horses (Equioxx®).
from the American Veterinary Medical Association, May 11, 2010
The AVMA was recently made aware that there were questions surrounding the legality of treating a horse with Previcox® (firocoxib), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) product labeled for dogs. Since there is a firocoxib product, Equioxx®, labeled for use in horses, then the canine product cannot be used in an extra-label fashion. Selecting the canine product over the equine product for any reason, including economic, is not acceptable. It is only if or when the approved equine drug were judged clinically ineffective for that labeled use that a veterinarian could use another animal approved drug, in an extra-label manner.
Some may have heard that economic reasons are valid reasons to use a drug in an extra-label manner – this is true only in that a veterinarian can select an approved human drug to relieve pain and suffering in a non-food animal even when an identical approved animal drug is available.
The spirit of AMDUCA is to allow veterinarians flexibility in administering therapies that will help relieve animal pain and suffering. The overarching premise for AMDUCA is that extra-label use is for filling a medical need when an animal's health is threatened.
Please contact the AVMA at 800-248-2862 if you have any questions or concerns.

I have gotten about 20 yards total of RCA screnings (I specifically mention for horses) from Edwards K P Materials in Bay Shore 666-2578 and have had no complaints about the quality. I have gotten from other places and it was chunky and had a lot of sharp pieces. All of the RCA I've gotten from this place has been very good, with little to no unwanted debris. Amended Friends Trail Ride report
16th Annual Friends of Connetquot Trail Ride and Hike
by Jerry Trapani
The sun shone brightly and a cool breeze made riding or hiking through Connetquot River State Park Preserve. Many new and old friends came to share a good time with like-minded folks and have a great lunch and win some great raffles. The saying that it takes a village to raise a child takes a twist and it takes many volunteers to make a successful fundraiser. Gil Bergen, Jessica Anderson-Ruiz and the dedicated staff at Connetquot came together to clean and prepare the old stable so we could have lunch and raffles inside. Many Friends board members gave of themselves both in time and donations to help our cause. Rita and Jerry Trapani, Aimee and Randy Schmitt, Ginny Fields, Liz Bloom, Bob Wilson, Bob Labuski, Fran Levesque and Keith Snedecor were all aboard. Great volunteers Tom and Nina Conroy, Ken and Annette Leitch picked up the great food donated by a cadre of generous businesses around the preserve. John Linitz pitched in and Jacob Levesque was there to guide the many trailers to their spots.
Many generous sponsors supported us with donations: Smithtown Hunt, Huntington Dog Grooming, East Islip Lumber, EMS Equine Veterinary Services, Dawn Electric, Edith and Bob Wilson, Shyacre Farm / the Schmitts, Shadbelly Farm / the Trapanis, Christopher Pratt Landscaping, Paumanok Driving Club, Connetquot Chiropractic and United Rehab of Bohemia, Acme Radiator, Green Rose Farm and John Fasolo. Many folks got the word out: The Friends of Connetquot, LI Equine.com, Horse Directory, Nassau Suffolk Horsemans Assn., Islip Horsemans Assn., East End Livestock and Horsemans Assn.., Talkin’Horses, Newsday, New York Natural Equestrians, Sonny Garguilo, Kathleen Kleinman, Aimee and Randy Schmitt and Jerry and Rita Trapani.
Breakfast was supplied by Islip Terrace Bagels and Bakery, Stuff A Bagel and Dunkin’ Donuts both of East Islip. Coffee donated by Aimee and Randy Schmitt, teas and more by Rita Trapani. The great luncheon was led by Snapper Inn’s award winning bisque and Rita’s meaty and veggie chili and served by Gil himself. Heros and salads from Handy Pantry of Bohemia, Paninnis, sliders sandwiches and antipasto from Nonna Maria, Francesco’s Trattoria, and Martino’s Pizza all from East Islip. More sandwiches and panninis from Puente D’Oro and Mary’s Pizza of North Great River. Wraps from B&G deli in Westbury. Keith Snedecor donated a chicken hero and made tortellini salad. Fancy cookies came from Audrey’s and Stanley’s bakeries and Rita made her great cakes.
Thirty seven baskets of goodies, mostly created by Rita and filled by our most generous donors. The Tack Shoppe, the Scalzo’s, Studio 69 Tattoos, Minieri’s Parkview and Sweet Hills Stables, Mars Auto, Pillow Perfect, Pam Stokes, Dawn Roth Equine Massage, Chestnut Vale Feed, The Hay Loft, Jerry and Rita Trapani, Wendy Hodor, Indian head Ranch, Good Shepherd Farm, Dover Saddlery, Greenlawn Equestrian Center, Aurora Cold Laser Therapy, Country Farms Equestrian Center, East End Livestock Assn., Pet Bowl, Riders Choice Saddlery, Janet Ferrato, Sonny Garguilo, Stable Mates Equestrian Center, Paula Rodenas, Aimee and Randy Schmitt, Barbara Chuvalas baskets, Papa’s Farm and Greenhouses, Mary Ann Flanagan and Total Pet Care, Horse Directory, Farriers Formula, Doggy Style Grooming Salon, The Hitchmaster, W.E.S. Barn Cats & Feral Cat Spay/Neuter
Please contact RSVP Animal Welfare & Rescue at 631-533-2PET if you are looking for a barn cat. We are looking for homes for semi-feral kitties that are spay/neutered, vaccinated, and tested. They were caught too late to fully socialize but would be good barn cats. (Only to barns who will feed the cats and not expect them to live on prey alone!) We also have a beautiful friendly calico female about 3 years old who lives under a trailer in Riverhead at one of our feeding stations and would love to re-home her to a safer location. Friendly cats and kittens available too, including a pair of beautiful declawed Himalayan boys about 10 yrs old. Lastly, if anyone is looking for spay/neuter assistance for ferals see http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/files/2013_Fix_A_Feral_Program.pdf and be careful not to trap nursing mama cats at this time of year. Thank you.

frost free hydrants
Contact Richie at Great River Hardware in Islip Terrace they sell and install and repair hydrants the # there is 631 277 8186
As for the claim the "basic ingredient" in WD-40 is "fish oil," it's a common rumor and one that is easily propagated (because cans of WD-40 spray include no ingredients list), but a glance at the composition information included in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for WD-40 aerosol indicates the product is primarily petroleum-based, with the main ingredient being "solvent naptha, petroleum, medium aliphatic" (also known as Stoddard Solvent):
solvent naphtha petroleum, medium aliphatic, > 60%

Seeking a full board backyard barn/low key type situation for my middle-aged QH gelding on West Hills or Old Westbury/Muttontown trail systems. He has great manners and is a joy to have around. His safety and care are my top priority. Due to a situation out of my control, I regretfully must move him.
Access to trails a must as well as all day turnout. We do pleasure riding a few days a week and are the type of horse and respectful and responsible owner you'd like to have in your barn. :)
Can provide references including from his current caretakers.

Horse boarding/manorville/ Horse Post Farm
This farm in Manorville does not do what's right by you or your horse. Yes. Most of the people who boarded there were new to horse ownership, and did rely on the owner. I trusted this man for seven years. He told me it was always a medical issue, and it was the boarders fault the horse looked the way (they) do. He had me convinced of all the lies, until we started going there daily with feed in hand, and our horses alone started to fatten up and have more energy. He told us he was feeding a "mega calorie feed." This was a lie, because when I went out one saturday, after witnessessing a good three days with no hay, he and his wife were out feeding a cheap sweet feed, until the hay got there. He also seemed to revel in others having a hard time with their horse.....for example, I told a girl she could ride my horse jimmy...The owner knew the horse was hard to bridle and instead of going over and offering a hand, he let this girl struggle for 20 minutes, and laughed while she struggled, before finally going over and offerering a hand. He told me this himself. Right now, I'm sure the owner is "doing the right thing" but this is only temporary because it will go back to normal once he feels certain this has blown over. Martin Howes asked how he could offer board for $400 a month and not make a profit, while all the other barns were $200 more.....The owner had me believing it was because he kept his hay cost low. That's true because the hay is of very very poor quality. If this owner fed the quantity he shoud be feeding, even in reference to any grain.....he couldn't afford it. He may be feeding grain now, but for how long? I was stupid to believe anything he said! Especially believing him in lieu of a qualified vet! I admit, I turned a blind eye to a lot of nonsence that went on at that barn because he was supposed to be my friend. Isn't that what friends do? I didn't realize how bad it really was until we started feeding our own horses and realized this owner is not feeding or the other horses would have gained some weight as well as our own. He doesn't own this property. It belongs to the bank. Do not board your horses at this location. He will act like he is your friend and con you out of money, as was done to us, and as soon as you are no longer useful to him, he will cast you aside as well. Trust me on this. It is all very very true. This man has never ever had one good thing to say about anyone...I know. I was there a long time. My horses now are completely different, now that THEY ARE FED PROPERLY. They still have weight to gain, but they are on the right path to recovery. Don't be stupid like I was and put faith in this person and his wife. I just hope he at least cleaned the paddocks. He told me he had "clay" to pack in their feet, so the thrush would "go away." How about cleaning up? That would be the first remedy. The stalls and paddocks were not just muddy, but filled with manure and urine for many many many months. It wasn't temporarily dirty. And I blew it off because he told us he had cancer. Don't people who have cancer look thin and sickly, instead of fat and overfed?I think that was just an excuse to give him some time.

I too boarded my horse at this farm at first i thought it was such a laid back nice place until i would look in feed room and see there was never any grain and for days no hay and was told the ground was too wet to put it down. There was about 6 horses per small paddock. My stay there was very short lived they lied directy to my face and did not feel what they were doing is wroing I tried reporting them a few times hopefully someone will get the point across.

Manorville Barn
To those of you who question the ex-boarders at that despicable manorville barn for keeping their horses there. Most of us were new horse owners. We relied heavily on this owner/liar word on the care of our horses. Yes, we did notice the weight loss, and after running up a $2000 vet bill to rule out all other possibilities finally realized it was the lack of quality food. Hay was there, unfortunately for our horses it was the type of hay that one wood put outside their porch on Halloween. We were once naive and have now learned so so much. The Vets who frequented the barn were reluctant to state the obvious because it would have a direct effect on their business, until they were pointedly confronted. The owner has been sued in court...and lost. He no longer even owns the property...the bank foreclosed. The SPCA is hot on his trail STAY AWAY FROM THAT BARN - do not be naive as we were and learn from our hardship. RIP Traveler.

Manorville Barn
I too boarded at this barn a few years ago. I was there for less than three weeks before I realized they were not feeding my horse. I suprized them one day by taking the day off from work and stopping down in the middle of the day during the week. I found my horse locked in a stall with no shavings, standing in a puddle of his own urine, barely any water and no food to be found anywhere. I pulled him out that day. For me personally, this was enough reason to leave. I do not wish to bash people, but I am sharing this because it is SO SO SO important to check on your horse on a regular basis. I'm lucky that I knew my horse well enough to realize something just wasn't right with him...which led me to do the surprise visit. If you have a very set schedule and ALWAYS show up at the barn at the same time I would recommend changing it up every now and then. Drop by at an unexpected time. Drop by durning feeding time. I am so glad I listened to that little voice in my head that said something wasn't right.

barn in manorville
I do not know this barn in manorville, but I want to ask how people do not realize their horses are not being fed properly and that a place is unclean? Please, if you own a horse, visit it daily even if you don't ride. Horses get sick and injured quickly and often. If you are not checking on your horse, you may not realize until it's too late. You can't just trust that other people are going to take care of your pets for you. A quick visit from your veterinarian could easily determine why your horse is losing weight. And if all the horses on the property are losing weight - there is a problem. A horse not being fed properly has other signs other than losing weight. There are behavioral changes too. Screaming, biting, eating wood, etc.

Boarding- you get what you pay for
I couldnt help but respond on this topic, asi have seen the "barn in question"s ads over the years advertising their stalls for $400/mo.
As a barn owner on LI i couldnt figure out how they charged to little and had any room for "profit"... I chalked it up to, "well, maybe they have hay farmers in the family and get hay real cheap, or maybe grain isnt included in price" etc...
Now, i see people coming forward, and know why board was so "cheap"...they were under feeding the horses.
When the avg backyard board price is 550-600 it seems now a days, you have to ask yourself, " How is this barn charging almost $200 less than everyone else?!"
Sad, but true. I know times are hard and people are looking to save $ where they can, but when it comes to the health and well being of your horse, cheap is NOT usually good.
Im glad people are speaking up and hopefully keeping others from going through what they did.

boarding horses in manorville
The barn is located right near sportsman's kennels and the house has a tin roof. Please please keep your animals away from this place and the owners. I was good friends with the owner for 8 years, and he totally had me fooled and convinced our horses lost weight due to medical issues. The emaciated conditions of my horses were due from A LACK OF FOOD! What makes it worse, he was my FRIEND. I was totally scammed. Sad thing is, I missed out on a lot of really good people in the horse community because I believed the lies of what this scammer said about perfectly nice people. Why wouldn't I? We were friends for a long time, so I thought....until we pulled our horses out; and then he said we just would not be friends anymore...we like the rest of those who left...will leave on bad terms. I thought why? All we did was help him, give him board early, defend him, offer to clean up his farm on our dime, and then he just turns us away? When this many people come foward to share in the horrors of this farm, THIS MANY PEOPLE CANNOT BE WRONG. I turned a blind eye to a lot of terrible things and I can no longer defend him. And I defended him. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to those people who had horses there, whose lives were affected by this outrageous behavior. If I had honestly known the truth, I would have never tolerated any of it. There are so many great horse people in the community who I missed out on because I was conned into believing the lies. I have no axe to grind with this farm other than what was done to the animals, and all those great people who came and went so abruptly. Going foward, I will, sadly, not be so quick to offer my friendship to anyone, or give anyone the benefit of doubt. It's hard to believe a person could be so hateful towards animals and other people. Why? So, again....I am very sorry if you and your animals were hurt. Horse ownership is a beautiful thing to have, and he has made it very very ugly for a lot of people. Please feel free to email me.

BOARDING IN MANORVILLE
Please be very careful of where you board your horse. I stupidly believed someone for the past seven years where I boarded my horse, only to find out the man was full of it...full of himself and "it." Horses were not fed properly, nor were the stalls and paddocks cleaned, so my horse had an extreme case of thrush. It's a shame because when you board, you are expecting the barn to take care of your horse properly because THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR. Do a background check or make sure you have references before putting your horse in barn where you THINK it will be cared for by caring people. This was not the case with my horse. My horse has recovered, fortunately, and I am a wiser person because of this horrible experience. Do not give anyone the benefit of doubt when it comes to your animals. I know I won't.

Certified Equine Sports Massage
I have been blessed with many wonderful teachers (human and equine) throughout my equestrian career. They each had different training methods, but all focused around balance, suppleness, rhythm, and connection. They taught me to be effective and patient, but more importantly to be a rider that put my horsemanship and sportsmanship first.
My journey into Equine Sports Massage, Acupressure, and Reiki started at a time in my life when I was becoming discouraged by what I was seeing in the horse industry. Lots of quick fix drugs and supplements, harmful training methods and an overabundance of injuries and colics. There had to be a better way.
I set out on a mission: to help our horses feel better, become stronger and healthier athletes, and live their fully realized potential.
I researched different schools of thought, took classes, watched clinics, and talked to professionals in all areas of the industry. I learned biomechanics, equine anatomy, acupressure points and meridians. I studied the musculoskeletal, circulatory, nervous, and lymphatic systems. I received my Reiki attunements, took up meditation, studied chakras, and even read books on equestrian yoga.
What I learned is that it all comes back to the basics: balance. suppleness. rhythm. connection. To put it simply, HARMONY.
60% of the horse’s body is made up of skeletal muscle. By treating these muscles, you are creating suppleness for the tendons, a better range of motion for the joints, and less stress on the ligaments. The blood circulates more freely, creating new cells, and drawing out toxins, bringing a new energy and vitality to the system. The horse begins to feel the realignment in their body, and relaxes knowing that the human’s touch is restorative and healing.
When the horse’s body and mind are in harmony it opens up a whole new world of potential. The combination of Equine Sports Massage, Acupressure, and Reiki when used consistently, will greatly benefit the performance, enjoyment and overall chemistry of horse and rider.

Interview
Hi,
For my English class, I have to interview a woman on...basically just her life as a woman, but more specifically how being a woman affected her life in terms of inequality, sexism, stereotype, etc. I really didn't want to go the obvious route and interview my mom, so I thought I would see if I can get any interesting stories from the equine community on how being a woman has affected you in the horse world.
Unfortunately, it took two days for me to get the account activation email from liequine, so I am running very behind--a typed record of the interview is due in class tomorrow! So, I would very, very much appreciate any responses a.s.a.p.
Thanks

Equine Herpesvirus Information
GUIDANCE FOR HORSE OWNERS WHO ATTENDED THE MARCH 29-30TH HORSE SHOW IN TITUSVILLE, NJ.
If your horse competed at the horse show in Titusville, NJ, on the weekend of March 29-30th, here are some tips to monitor for the neurologic form of EHV-1:
•Take your horse’s temperature twice a day for the next two weeks. Temps greater than 101.5 must be reported to your veterinarian immediately. Your veterinarian needs to promptly report sick horses to the NYS Division of Animal Industry at 518-457-3502.
•Watch for signs of neurologic disease – fever (comes and goes quickly), incoordination, leaning against stall, urine dribbling, poor tail tone
•Keep your horse isolated from other horses upon returning home.
•Do not takeyour horse to shows, trail rides or anywhere else, including out of state, for 3 weeks.
•Clean and disinfect any tack and equipment that you took with you to the show, this includes your trailer.
•If you see any signs of illness or detect a fever, call your veterinarian immediately.
•Vaccination for this group of animals (post exposure) is not recommended at this time.

Equine Dentistry
Re: looking for an equine dentist with experience who won't rip you off.
please consider contacting an equine veterinarian, there are some who specialize in dentistry and who will show you any problems found in your horses mouth. If a "dentist" can't explain and show you what he or she is doing, whether visually or in a written report, then you can't be sure you are getting the best care for your horse. Dental care is as important as hoof care.

NEED STALL GATE
I am looking to purchase a standard metal stall gate -
I will say this, I spend a lot of time listening and working with horses. Experience allows me to answer with conviction. Many so called ‘trainers’ can get a reaction or have a horse submit to demands. Many ‘accomplish’ this by becoming the “dominant” leader.
But what goes on inside their minds, I often ask myself, when we introduce implements such as a whip, sticks, ropes or even spurs?
I often give a description to this as follows, “This is no different than turn on your car, open the door, roll down the street, then proceed to run after it and jump in”. This can really never have a good outcome all the time, most often than not, the end result leaves us with injuries along with a bruise to our ego.
The Introduction from human to horse starts with a trusting partnership. Certainly, both the mind and feet need to be addressed, but they need to be looked at as an entire entity.
A horse’s mindset, has been such, that they are prey to all the territorial pedators for hundreds of thousands of years, where life preservation is their first thought. The humans have tapped into this fear and now become the “dominant leader”. I would prefer to be the horses “nurturing leader”. The reason being, I would be the one they would trust and mimicking as a herd member.
Connecting with the mind allows you to achieve what you are looking for, helping the horse set up for success. When I ask a horse for participation in a ride, they are more than willing to be an equal team member.
Not communicating with the mind can result in our partners voicing their displeasure. The lack of understanding, demonstrated as confusion and frustration, becomes the precursor to many behaviors such as biting, bucking, rearing and kicking.
Once communication is established, the feet can now follow direction with less resistance. Understanding a horses movement components, allows us to direct them to follow in a dance like fluent motion. Even when eventing in the saddle, less pressure is needed more response is shown.
We should never forget, we have not created the method in which the horse’s feet move. Horses in a natural herd are taught at an early stage of life. Unfortunately when we get involved, their balance, movement and timing are compromised.
This process of working the horse’s feet, after you have connected with the horse’s mind, resolves and eliminates stress. Challenge of authority and resistance to perform, are now minimized.
Allowing you and your equine partner, more time to enjoy each other, sharing the compassion of one living being to another. Discovering new journeys with your horse having the ability to ask instead of tell.

Meet n' Greet
Meet n’ Greet
After demos, I am often swarmed by attendees wanting the same special connection they saw me share with horses. Often, I’m asked ‘how can I develop a better relationship with my horse?’
For starters, I ask people to remember the horses most natural instincts, those of prey animals. We look different, smell funny, sound unusual, and just might be mountain lions. Our equine partners need us to prove we are not predators but that we are their nurturing leaders.
Horses live what they learn. If we burst into the stall, reach immediately for their head, rush to throw something on their back, that’s INVASION. Doing so you have now taught your horse that invasion is okay.
Whoa, back to kindergarten friends. Let’s start, as horses do, with a regular INTRODUCTION. Horses in the pasture, the wild, or the barn generally touch another’s nose when meeting for the first time giving an ‘international handshake’. I suggest you mimic horses’ social order accordingly. ASK to say a simple ‘Hello’. Yes, that simple. Just offer your closed hand palm down about an inch or two in front of their nose. WAIT for them to touch your hand. Patience is necessary! If they don’t, back up, take a breath, and offer the introduction again. Once touched, GIVE back the reward of a soft stroke. You have just begun your first conversation in the language they understand. Access granted. This practice should continue anytime you greet a horse, first time, all the time.

Connetquot Trail Clean-up
Many thanks to all the volunteers who came to Connetquot Park today to help clean the bridle paths. About 40 great people gave a few hours of their time to make the trails cleaner and safer for all. Connetquot is 3,600+ acres w/ the arboretum property and there are almost 50 miles of trails. That is a lot of property to maintain. Full body clip
Hi everyone!
My horse is 28 and has Cushing's. She is enormously fuzzy, and shedding her out takes an entire season.
I wanted some recommendations about body clipping. I used to use Helmi regularly - is he still working? If not, can someone send me the names of some people who body clip?
Thanks! Email me at ChrisCCRN@gmail.com...

Update: mare with nasal discharge
thank you to all who responded and offered advice on my older mare with nasal discharge. The results of her culture came back. the vet is not 100% positive if there is a cracked tooth or if its a sinus infection, or if the sinus infection is secondary to a cracked tooth. Next course of action is SMZ's for 3-4 weeks. If there is no improvement I will be taking her to mid atlantic equine hospital.

Caralyn - terrier
I saw that dog loose on connetqout a month or so ago and tried to get her but she wouldn't come to me. I haven't seen her since (I drive connetqout every day) I would think that she probably lives on connetqout. She kept running towards the backyard of a house there. It was in between bayonne and southlawn on the west side of the road. I suggest knocking on a few doors, or hanging a sign near that area. I don't remember the exact house, but it was definately not horse property.

Adopt a Dog?!
Hello guys, it's Caralyn again!!! We have had no luck finding the dog's owners and we are starting to get the feeling that someone just dumped her. I don't know why since she is very friendly, and house trained!!!! She is a medium terrier mix, around 25 pounds, and grey all over with a white stripe extending from her chin to mid-belly. She is most likely less than 2 years old, and is very well trained. For now we are calling her "Toby" :) She walks on a leash, and does simple commands. Only bad thing is that she is NOT spayed. Also, she isn't the best with other dogs. We already have two dogs of our own, and dont have the time to take care of another. We found her On connetquot Ave in Central Islip. If you are interested in adopting this sweet female dog, please text, call or email me. My number is 5166409785
We also haveanother terrier mix who could be placed in a home. If you contact me I can provide more info/pictures on either Dog.

Saving Americas Horses
A very important film/documentary is going to be released in the next few weeks about Saving America's Horses. It will tell the story about how the government and special interests re removing our wild horses, race horses and abandoned personal horses and sending them to slaughter. New Mexico and Oklahoma are two states that have approved horse slaughter facilities in our country. They are sending horsemeat to France for consumption. It is important that all horse lovers understand what is going on and act on this horrific situation. Please advise if you would be available to see the documentary, so that I can make arrangements. Hedgehogs!
LOL, I know, you are probably thinking, "hedgehogs" what on earth does that have to do with horses? Well, it doesn't but since horse people are also animal lovers, I'm posting this in an effort to connect with someone who breeds and sells hedgehogs or knows of a reputable breeder/seller in Nassau or Suffolk county. I have a son who is hedgehog obsessed and has been studying everything about them for the past year in hopes of having one as a pet someday. However, they are a rather elusive pet to find. If you have any information to share, please send me an email. Thank you!

nasal discharge
My horse has had this issue off and on a few times. It usually is brought on by allergies that then turn into an infection. It can be very difficult to treat with oral antibiotics. I had great success with flushing out the nostril on a daily basis with warm water and some epsom salt. I also put him on a breathing support supplement for about six months. Now the second I see any kind of discharge I immediately start doing the nasal irrigation. It seems to be working.

DOG FOUND IN CENTRAL ISLIP
Did you lose a young female terrier mix? She was found on Sunday morning, 3/3/13 with a blue collar or roaming on Connetquot Avenue. She is a sweetheart, and loves people. She was hungry and very dirty. We are trying to locate her owners, or possibly adopt her out if we cannot find them. She is Grey all over, with a white patch extending from her chest to mid-belly. She loves kisses. We figure that she hopped a fence and got out of her bacjyard, since we found that she can jump 4 feet high!!! She's around 20 pounds.
Is she your dog? Do you know who she belongs to?
If you have any info on her, or if she's yours please call me at (516)640-9785

Trouble diagnosing my older mare
Hi everyone!
I have an older mare (in her mid 20's) who has had unilateral nasal discharge for approx. 1 month and smells terrible. She has no temp. Is eating and acting normally. So far I have had a vet come to scope her and take radiographs, a dentist to check for any tooth maladies and put on a ten day course of antibiotics (uniprim). I have another vet coming out for a third opinion and to take x-rays on monday. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? We still don't have a diagnosis. I'm convinced there is a cracked or abscessed tooth yet the diagnostic tests show nothing. Suggestions/questions to ask the vet are welcome. Thanks!
