ISO STALLS

Hey all! I'm looking for 2 stalls. Rough board. I have 2 geldings who are always barn favorites, and very well behaved. I'm looking for something no further than 20 minutes away from medford. Ideally I'd like to be in medford or yaphank but I don't have to be. A riding ring is a must. One horse is retired but the other is in training for dressage and eventually we will be jumping. Thank you!

Leadline Classes

What is acceptable in a leadline class as far as tack and dress? This would be a first timer that may or may not continue to ride. I'd hate to spend all the money for a new saddle (mainly) if I can get away with just using my saddle (english) this time. I do have a kid's western saddle that we have been using. I'd just like to hear everyone's thoughts or ideas.

TUX NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Tux's Story....So Far

An 8 year old Shire/TB cross recently underwent major surgery.  My dad went to go feed and bring in the horses for the night, just like any other night, on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.  Except this night was different.  His beloved horse Tux, a 17hh gentile giant was in distress.  Tux appeared to be colicking.  Nothing we have never seen before.  So my dad started to walk Tux hoping to settle his stomach.  After 5 hours, he was still not feeling better.  The vet came and gave him Batamine.  Tux's symptoms only continued to worsen.  After a long night of walking him, my dad called the vet back.  He was pumped with oil and fluids hoping to get things moving in Tux's stomach.  To no avail.  This is when he was referred to the Cornell Ruffian Equine Clinic.  With the help of our (AMAZING) neighbor, my dad quickly hooked up the trailer, loaded, and got Tux to the clinic. Upon arrival, the team at the clinic was ready to tend to this poor horse.

To shorten up a long story, the specialist working on Tux, Dr. Hurcombe, told my Dad that Tux had a twisted small intestine.  It was most likely caused by a type of genetic disorder where a part of his small intestine circulation has been cut off and they will need to perform emergency surgery to remove about 25 feet of dead intestine.  There is an 85% survival chance if we go with the surgery.  Without hesitation, my dad asked them to go forward with the surgery.  About 10 years ago, my dad lost his first best friend Kyle to colic.  He was not about to lose Tux.  After 4 hours of surgery and removal of 30 feet of small intestine, Tux was being transferred to the recovery room.

Since then, he has been fighing a very uphill battle to recover.  My dad and neighbor were sent back home to get some sleep.  It has been a very trying time for Tux these past few days, but he has been staying quiet and fighting the good fight.  Today, my dad and I went to the clinic to visit him.  Upon arrival, one of the vet technicians brought us up to speed with his progress.  Becuase Tux has only been given fluids (to be sure the area that was re-attached has no leaks and can properly heal) he has had diarrhea.  It has been monitored and been improving, however, just before we got there, it had worsened.  This could be due to many factors, so they did some bloodwork.  The white blood cell count came back normal which is a great sign.  Becuase horses are natural carriers of salmonella, they had to take every precaution and quarantine him.  He was going to be tested for it if the Dr. Hurcombe ordered it, but they had not heard back from him at that point yet.  Another sympton he was experiencing was an elevated respiratory system.  This could be due to heat or pain, but he is on paid management medications and was put in a well ventilated stall with a large fan.  Unfortunately, they were unable to explain why his breating was heavy.

Despite the heartbreaking condition Tux is in, my dad and I decided to go in and see him.  We spent about an hour, petting him in his favorite spots and talking to him, telling him he is going to fight through this.  As we were in the stall, I couldn't help but notice the IV that was sewed into his neck which connected to a line that was hung from the ceiling.  He had a muzzle with a feeding tube on the side.  On the sides of his head, his chest, and his legs, he had scrapes from the time he went down in the paddock and was thrashing around on his back next to the fence.  All the scrape sites had ointment on them and were healing.  He visibly lost a ton of weight.  But he was standing.  At times, he put his ears forward and opened his eyes big and bright.  These things gave us hope.  We learned that he is expected to stay at least another week at the clinic with around the clock checks to be sure he is progressing positively and to administer his medications.  Transitioning his back to food that has more texture to it, which he is not ready for at this time, will take a minimum of 4 days.  As we gave Tux the last kisses for the day, we left the stall and had a silent drive home.  While this was going on, my parents have been in the process of making a move to their home in Virginia where they will eventually retire.  My mom is in VA full time now and has been heartbroken that she can't be here to help.

My dad is the kind of guy that can go up to any animal and just abolutely love them.  My mom is the kind of person who would drop literally ANYTHING for a friend and help them.  Both of my parents are unbelievably kind, have always put others before them and NEVER asked for anything in return.

While this is going on, there is no thought or mention of the cost of vet bills that will be associated with Tux's treatment.  All we know at this point is that there is a long hard recovery period still ahead.  That's where I come in.  I don't know how much the vet bill will end up being.  But for my parents to not consider that in a dire attempt to rather save Tux's life says a lot about who they are.  In an attempt to ease the financial pain, I have set up a GoFundMe page to try and help raise money for Tux's vet bills.  Here I post regular updates and pictures of his progress.  My parents don't know about the page right now, but when enough money has been raised, I will present it to them and I know they will be beyond words.

What I am asking is that anyone who can, please help donate.  Money isn't the only way to do so - just by sharing the page and spreading the word helps TREMENDOUSLY.  I don't have a Facebook or any kind of social media so getting help sharing his story and spreading the word helps so much.  Sending prayers, notes of encouragement, or sharing your own success story helps too!!  If you know my parents, chances are they have done something to help you out - and they did it happily and with a smile on their faces.  If you don't, I hope that you can at least learn from Tux's story.  Follow it, note the details, and learn about a very real ailment that could happen to any horse at any time.

Thank you so much for reading Tux's story.  The link to his GoFundMe page where photos and updates on his progress can also be found is:

Available for Adoption

For Adoption:
Carmen (black & white paint) is a 20 year old mare and around 15 hands. Georgie Girl (buckskin & white paint) is a 13 year old mare and around 16.1 hands. We are going to start accepting adoption applications from potential adopters to ensure we find the right match for them. They are available for adoption together as a pair only, as they are mother and daughter and have been together since Georgie was born. They are super sweet, sound, they don't bite, kick, and are not aggressive in any way. They stand well for the farrier and for grooming and are up to date on all. They will need someone with experience to retrain them since they haven't been ridden in many years. Carmen has about a year under saddle but will need to be brought back slowly. Georgie only has about 30-60 days riding on her so she is very green and will need to be restarted. They are located in Manorville, NY and we only adopt horses out within a 4 hour driving radius from zip code 11949. Their adoption fee is $500 for the pair.

Looking for Trainer

Hi! My name is Nicole.  My horse is Mally.  She is an 11 year old OTTB and full of energy.  I am looking for a trainer that specifically knows thoroughbreds and who will come to this barn.  I am looking to ride her in hunters.

She is not the easiest horse to ride, but we have come a long way.  Mally is difficult in the sense that she easily becomes bored.  She always needs a focus, direction, and task.

I am having trouble with her left lead, but I am aware it has a lot to do with my position.  Position and how I sit on her back changes everything with this horse.

Apart from isssues with her left lead, Mally's next big challenge is containing her energy (especially jumping- she loves the jumps).

My biggest challenge is my nerves.  I am looking for someone who can successfully know when to push me as well as when to back off on my bad days.

We really are a great team and very hard working.  If you have any questions please text, call, or dm.  My number is (516)993-9704.

I look forward to hearing back from anyone interested in training us and feels they are a good fit.

Thank you,

Nicole

Seeking Reasonable Lease

I am a lifelong, responsible adult rider who has been riding horses for private owners for the past 10 years.  I am brave, kind, and educated in basic dressage and extensive jumping.  I ride happily in- and outside of the arena.

I am looking to ride 2 days per week only due to a very busy schedule. I am knowledgeable and experienced with green horses of many types and ages; not interested in any horses with dangerous under-saddle vices, but certainly willing and able to t wotk with horses learning to jump or in need of polish.  I am extremely reliable.

Part time help

Hello,

I am a horse lover! I am 30 and am looking to become more involved in the equine community and build my skills.  I have some experience with horses but would consider myself at a novice level.  My dream is to become a natural horsemanship trainer.  I want to take the steps necessary to obtain that goal.  I am interested in any work that will provide more exposure to this life to include stall and paddock maintenance, grooming, etc.  I have riding experience at a beginner to intermediate level.  I do work full time during the week but am available 3 weekends out of the month.  Please contact me via email if interested in my assistance.  Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.   lizdanjriley@gmail.com

RETIREMENT FOR YOUR ADORED EQUINE

Happy Summer

Can you picture your horse here? Spacious grassy fields, with deep blue sky above sharing a few poofy clouds. Mountains in the distance beyond the treelines turning a light shade of purple. A group of horses with their heads down munching on green grass with their ears relaxed to the sides as their eyes are soft with contenment as their shining coats grab the last rays of the setting sun. That is what i have the pleasure of viewing every day here at Three Bays Farm, for the last 15 years.

Now is the time to start thinking of when you will be retiring your special guy or gal. Early fall is the best time before going into the winter months. With summer just around the corner and spring finally here, its the best time for you to enjoy trail rides and quality time before making that oh so very hard decision. But here on Three Bays Farm we have happy and relaxed horses!! See our ad under boarding!! We have field spots open right now and 1 open stall. So if you are not ready now, contact us to put you on the wait list for in the fall. You can email me at horselady9@aol.com or call or text at 610-78-4920. Lots of LI references to share!!! Looking forward to speaking with you!

NSHA Open Meeting

NSHA Open Meeting

Open meeting for elections Wednesday, 7-9pm at old Bethpage Village Restoration.

On behalf of the NSHA Board of Directors, I want to thank all of our supporters who came to our last open meeting and to all the volunteers in helping to make this year’s SWAP night a success! NSHA was in dire straits and you all pulled through!

SWAP night is a huge event and it wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of countless people who help prepare ahead of time, work during the event itself, and clean up afterwards. It truly is a great community event from the committee planning it to the people working it. Thank you for helping to make the day possible!

The turn out from our last meeting was such a success. We have faith in your support again. Our next open meeting is this Wednesday. The main point for this meeting is the election of officers. There will also be discussion on the upcoming Vineyard ride being held June 4th.

There is a list of open officer positions available as well as volunteer positons for different events.

This is your organization and it is your opportunity to steer the direction you wish it to take.

Thank You Very Much,

NSHA Board of Directors

spraying in Connetquot May 20th please share

The reason Connetquot is being sprayed is because the forest has seen severe impacts to a variety of pests over the past few years. Many native pitch pine have been lost to southern pine beetle over the past two years, leaving oaks as the dominate canopy trees of the park. Heavy infestations of gypsy moth in the spring and two spotted oak worm in the summer have acted as a double shock to these trees. Drought, severe winters and other environmental factors have also stressed these trees. Only 300 acres of the nearly 3,600 acres of the park will be sprayed, which are the most highly infested areas.  We believe this is an extreme situation and must act in order not to lose additional trees.

THANK YOU

JERRY FOR THIS INFORATION

Seeking Full Time Employment

Hello,

My name is Celeste, I am 24 and originally from Texas, where most of my riding career has lived. I moved to New York City a few years ago to complete my Bachelors degree in Marketing and Graphic Design. Since then, I have worked on many campaigns and events but have maintained my riding career with hopes to turn this into a full-time career.

I have over 15 years experience in eventing with a heavy focus in Pony Club and 4H Vet Tech; and now a focus on dressage with hopes to compete in the next few years. The bulk of my riding experience has been on the back of ornery ponies and off the track thoroughbreds! During my summers in college, I maintained my family's farm of 13 horses in Texas with boarders and competitors and established a lesson programs for kids 14 and under.

Given my experience in marketing and graphic design, I am ideally looking for a position as barn manager or aid in establishing a barn manager program along with marketing the farm.

Please send me an email at celestechesser@gmail.com for references and experience. Thanks!

Horse available for half lease

Cute 6 year old bay thoroughbred available for half lease. I am looking for someone who is an intermediate/experienced rider because she is still a little green. She is not spooky and is a safe mare, I've let people that have no clue how to ride get on her and she has taken good care of them. Only reason I say intermediate/experienced rider is because she still needs a little more work wth her right lead. She has gone over some jumps but is not the biggest fan of jumping, if that is something you'd like to work on with her an experienced rider is more than welcome to. She is an absolute doll to be around and absolutely loves people and attention. Feel free to email me for pictures or anymore information you would like. She is located off of connetquot avenue.

It was held at the magnificent Tombstone Monument Ranch in Tombstone, AZ. EMERGENCY OPEN MEETING TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF NSHA

On Monday February 22nd, at 8PM, at the Old Bethpage Restoration Village Administration Building, NSHA will be having an open meeting to discuss the future of the organization. The organization is in a precarious  situation, with not only a reduction of the general membership, but a stepping down of almost half  of the Board of Directors!  You may be aware of the fact that the activities that we all have enjoyed throughout  the years have been significantly reduced. Unless we can revitalize NSHA our existence will be at risk. With that being the case, we will see the end of Swap Night, Open House, the Vineyard Ride, the Horse Show, seminars and presentations and the Newsletter as well as advocacy for you, the horse people here on Long Island.
The meeting will explore the options of continuing as a viable organization, merging with other organizations or ceasing to exist. You will have an opportunity to voice your ideas, and possible solutions, as well as changes that you would like to see if we are to continue. It cannot be emphasized more, that we are on life support!
As an inducement to attend the meeting, light  refreshments will be available.

Spring is around the corner!!!

Hi All...Greetings from THREE BAYS FARM

Hope everyone survived the Mega Snow of 2016! According to the long range ski resorts report that should be the only major snow here on the east coast.

All the horses and their people here on the farm did well. Neil was ontop of the plowing and snow removal to make sure all was safe and accessible...

I have a stall that opened up. Young Roger has left for his new home in Mississippi to become a childrens hunter with his junior  owner. If you have a horse that is ready to retire or needs some layup time give us a call. There is also field board opportunties available. See our Ad under BOARDING.Cool

Nassau Suffolk Horsemen's Association Emergency Open Meeting

NASSAU - SUFFOLK
HORSEMEN’S ASSOCIATION, INC.
www.nshaonline.org
EMERGENCY OPEN MEETING
TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF NSHA
TO ALL PAST, PRESENT AND POTENTIAL MEMBERS:
On Monday February 8th, at 8PM, at the Old Bethpage Restoration
Village Administration Building, NSHA will be having an open
meeting to discuss the future of the organization. The organization is
in a precarious situation, with not only a reduction of the general membership,
but a stepping down of almost half of the Board of Directors! You may be aware
of the fact that the activities that we all have enjoyed throughout the years have
been significantly reduced. Unless we can revitalize NSHA our existence will be
at risk. With that being the case, we will see the end of Swap Night, Open House,
the Vineyard Ride, the Horse Show, seminars and presentations and the Newsletter
as well as advocacy for you, the horse people here on Long Island.
The meeting will explore the options of continuing as a viable organization, merging
with other organizations or ceasing to exist. You will have an opportunity to
voice your ideas, and possible solutions, as well as changes that you would like
to see if we are to continue. It cannot be emphasized more, that we are on life
support!
As an inducement to attend the meeting, light refreshments will be available.

ISO: Lifesize horse head mannequin display

I am in need of a lifesize horse head display, for a project I am working on. Does not need to be in great condition. Because this is just an experiment, I do not want to lay out the $100+ it would be to get a new one. Mannequins are much more patient than a real horse. And they dont take up nearly as much space. If anyone has one they no longer need, and will sell cheap please email me! Even better, if you are open to barter! I'm located in patchogue, but could travel a bit to get it.

Thanks in advance!

Was just wondering what it would cost these days for hauling . To Oklahoma it would not be till July , but just out of curiosity  what does this intail. I would just be traveling to a horse show so I would need my horse hauled there and back home about 3 or 4 days later. Never have done this before. I would assume it would be expensive  . But doesn't hurt to ask ..lol.. also possibly to Ohio as well which would be much closer, that would be for a show as well. Thank you Please email me privately .

Horse B&B on Connetquot Park

Our gelding needs company from April 1 to sometime between 5/15 and 5/30 when our mare returns.  Free full board offered to a healthy well-behaved horse or pony.  Includes a box stall and attached private 50x40 paddock.  You'd only need to supply whatever grain you use.  If you need a break from mucking, or want to do barn repairs, or just have access to the beautiful trails, this would work for you.  We do not have space for 3 horses, so your horse MUST arrive and leave on the same days our mare does, we have a trailer for LI transport if needed.  Islip side of the park.

Christmas Parades with IHA

Time for Xmas parades again. Most of you know the few rules we have to follow. You must be a member of I.H.A. You can join in Nov or Dec and your membership goes thru 2016. If you have never ridden in a parade before you MUST have a walker, or if you or your horse is a little nervous you MUST have walker. I am sure you all realize the reason, people at parades try to get close to horses, there’s a lot of noise. It’s a protection for them and for you and your horse. If you would like to join us and be a walker we would love to have you join us. Remember all dress festive bells, tinsel and whatever you can come up with. Don’t forget lights for the electric parades.

Islip parade is Sat Dec 5th another change this year is it's 5pm instead of 2pm and another ELECTRICAL parade! Meet 4pm at field at Brookwood hall off Irish La Islip
Sunday Dec 6th is Ronkonkoma escort Santa from Firehouse to Tree Lighting we meet at 1pm in parking lot of King Kullen Ronkonkoma Ave 2pm we escort Santa, great 1st parade as no loud music or Fire trucks etc just lots of kids at Tree.
Same day Sunday Dec 6th Bohemia ELECTRICAL parade starts at 5pm so we meet at 4pm if you know it takes you longer to get you and your horse decorated arrive earlier. At this time we will be meeting at Bohemia Rec Centre. Ruzika Way off Smithtown Ave. This could change as if the Rec center gets rented out then there is no parking there. Please register least a week before because if we don’t have enough horse and riders we have to cancel due to the cost of Insurance. Last please join us, so many of the things in life that we all had fun at people have no time for life changes etc. On that note, hope to see many of you at some of our parades with bells on. MERRY XMAS

Please contact Wendy Burling at 631-567-8743 to sign up.  We need to know who is going or we will not have the insurance to cover us.

Half Board Opportunity on Stunning Thoroughbred Gelding

I'm curently looking into multiple thoroughbred geldings to buy as OTTB's through CANTER USA. I am on a relatively tight budget and am looking to board at a barn (with an EXPERIENCED half boarder) at around $600 a month, as I can only afford half of that on my own. I'm located in Suffolk County, looking to board near the Connetquot State Park but am open to any inexpensive options of barns that I can get to regularly. Open to both backyard/private properties and public. No specific schedule for days needed, I'm flexible and have no problem working with you. I'll be looking to bring the gelding up as a jump prospect. Please contact me if you are interested, these guys are breathtaking! Email me at leighdeg99@yahoo.com or text/call me at 631 678 3004. Thank you!
